Shana's Story

Shana's Cafe and Bakery began in 1985 when, as a newlywed, I moved to my husband's family ranch in West Texas, 25 miles from the nearest town and 110 miles from the nearest supermarket.

I quickly learned to feed hungry cowboys and deer hunters hearty homemade meals which always included my Grandmother's homemade rolls and a dessert. The favorite was always my buttermilk pie.

Soon word got out, and people from town were asking for pans of enchiladas and rolls, and of course, the buttermilk pie. I began delivering my homemade goods in several West Texas towns. When my father-in-law arrived at the ranch with a brand new 20 quart mixer that took five grown men to unload into my tiny kitchen I knew I was destined for business.

April of 1996 I opened my first restaurant, Shana's Country Cuisine, in San Angelo, Texas. Three years later I opened a small cafe in downtown San Angelo and have had six different locations in the last 25 years.

I have always enjoyed cooking and learning from my mom, aunts, and grandmothers, all of whom were exceptional cooks. To this day I still use my grandmother's rolling pin to make all the homemade pie crust and various other desserts.

From my kitchen to yours, these delicious homemade recipes are to be enjoyed by all who love good old fashioned homemade meals and desserts. Afterall, who doesn't love a good homemade cookie or piece of pie!
